December 11, 2021 - On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, detectives with the Sheriff’s Ag Task Force Unit were following up on a report of stolen farm equipment. While on the property, a person in a black Lexus fled the area. Detectives attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over. About a minute into the pursuit, the driver lost control and crashed his car, rolling it onto its roof on Cedar Ave., south of North Ave.
The driver immediately began firing shots at deputies behind him. Deputies took cover and waited for additional help to arrive.
Update per Fresno County Sheriff’s Office:
The man who fired his gun at deputies has been identified as 27-year-old Roberto Jose Gamez of Fresno.
