December 15, 2021 - MARIPOSA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to complete the Mariposa Pedestrian Safety Project on Route 140 from the south junction of Route 49 to Twelfth Street in historic downtown Mariposa.

This is an important phase of the construction project to enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians and improve mobility / accessibility by installing high visibility crosswalks, crosswalk lighting, in-road warning lights, and curb ramps, in accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

When: Construction is scheduled to resume in January following the holidays and will continue until spring 2022.

Where: Route 140 at Route 49, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, and 12th Street intersections.

Details: Construction will take place mostly at night, however, 72-hour, single-lane closures will be required periodically to allow the stamped crosswalk concrete to cure.

Specific dates for start of construction and the 72-hour, single-lane closures will be announced prior to construction.

Traffic Impact: One-way traffic control will be used, and motorists can expect delays of 30 minutes or longer.

Businesses along Route 140 can remain open while crews construct the crosswalks.

Updates: Follow Caltrans District 10 on Facebook (@CaltransDistrict10) and Twitter (@CaltransDist10).

This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
