June 20, 2015 - The American Red Cross of the Central Valley has opened a second shelter for Oakhurst and North Fork area residents impacted by the Sky and Corrine Fires. The new shelter will open at 8:00pm Friday night and is located at Oakhurst EV Free Church, 50443 School Road, Oakhurst, CA 93644. This is in addition to the shelter opened yesterday at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 39696 Hwy 41, Oakhurst, CA 93644. The two shelters now open to anyone affected by current evacuations.

american red crossThe Central California Animal Disaster Team is also on scene at both shelter sites providing lodging, food, water, and comfort for domestic pets.

Approximately 75 people are currently in the Sierra Vista shelter where Red Cross volunteers are providing lodging, meals, hygiene kits, and comfort. The majority of shelter clients are employees from the nearby Calvin Crest camp.

The Red Cross continues to work closely with government and community partners to ensure the comfort and safety of all impacted residents.

“Red Cross staff and volunteers continue to meet the growing needs of these two wildfires,” said Executive Director Barry Falke, “We continue to urge all residents in affected areas to adhere immediately to evacuation orders from local enforcement.”

The Red Cross is able to provide disaster relief services during wildfire season thanks to the generosity of the community. The best way to help current wildfire evacuees is through a financial donation. Visit redcross.org to make an online donation to your local chapter.
