January 19, 2022 - The Fresno County Sheriff's Office reports on the night of January 15th, officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Patrol Division arrested 25 year old Rahmad Kerel Parke. He was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail. FCSO murder 1Arrangements are being made to transport him to the Fresno County Jail. Parke was wanted for the January 6th murders of his 90 year old grandfather Mel Abdelaziz and his mother, 58 year old Melba Abdelaziz.

On the morning of January 6th, deputies responded to a call of an injured person located at a home on the 5100 block of E. Tulare Ave. in Fresno. Deputies discovered Mel Abdelaziz deceased in the front yard and his daughter, 58 year old Melba Abdelaziz, deceased inside the home. Since this time, sheriff’s homicide detectives have been searching for Parke.

Following a press conference on January 14th, where the victims pleaded for Parke to turn himself in, our office received a tip of Parke possibly being in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles County. Our homicide detectives traveled to southern California and worked with LAPD to follow up on this information. On Saturday, Parke was seen in Sherman Oaks and LAPD took him into custody. Fresno County Sheriff’s homicide detectives interviewed Parke and he was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail.

The two victims began living together with other relatives in Fresno in early 2021 after Mel, a man who had served 70 years as a church pastor, suffered a stroke. Melba moved to Fresno from Los Angeles County to help her sister provide medical care for their father. On January 6th, the two visited the home on Tulare Ave. where Parke was staying.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to please contact Detective Jose Diaz at (559) 600-8204 or (559) 448-7089. Valley Crime Stoppers had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. They will determine if the person who gave the tip qualifies for a reward.
