There is a path to lower prescription drug prices, and Congress must deliver

January 24, 2022 - WASHINGTON - AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer Nancy LeaMond issued the following statement about the need 
for Congress to make good on its promise of lower prescription drug prices:
“The House of Representatives took an historic step in November when they passed meaningful reforms to help bring down medication costs through Build Back Better. It’s now been two months since that critical vote and Congress has yet to finish the job and bring down the outrageous prices of prescription drugs.
“Even in a time of record inflation, Big Pharma is busy increasing the price of hundreds of drugs, as they do every January. They will continue to rip off seniors and taxpayers until Congress acts to rein them in. Older Americans are sick and tired of paying drug prices that are three times higher than the rest of the world, and broken promises to provide relief for medicines they cannot afford.
“Letting Medicare negotiate lower drug prices has broad support with voters from all parties, fights the effects of inflation, and saves money for seniors and taxpayers. There is no reason Congress can’t get this done, and every reason to deliver.”
