January 30, 2022 - On Saturday evening, at about 7:30 P.M., deputies at the Public Safety Center located inmate Robert Inderbitzen unresponsive and suffering from wounds to his arm. SJCSO murderDeputies began life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived and transported him to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputies were alerted to a possible emergency in Inderbitzen’s cell when screaming was heard. They found him inside his cell, where he was housed by himself, unresponsive with cuts on his arm. Deputies began administering CPR and applied a tourniquet in attempt to stop the bleeding from his arm. When emergency medical personnel arrived, Inderbitzen was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Crimes Against Persons team and Identification Unit responded to take over the investigation and process the scene. It is believed Inderbitzen used a blade from his shaving razor to cut himself. His official cause of death will be determined during an autopsy later this week.

Inderbitzen was booked at the Stanislaus Public Safety Center on January 26th for charges related to theft, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm.

Homicide Suspect Arrested

49-year-old Robert Inderbitzen was arrested this past Wednesday, January 26 for the January 24, 2022, murder of Tracy resident Eric Almason. The murder weapon has also been recovered.

Around 10:00 P.M. on Monday, January 24th, 2022, Mr. Almason responded to his ranch on the 26000-block of South Lammers Road in Tracy, after being alerted by neighbors that someone was trying to break into buildings on the property. After arriving on-scene, Mr. Alason confronted a man later identified as Robert Inderbitzen. Our investigation determined that Inderbitzen then shot and killed Mr. Almason and fled. Inderbitzen was taken into custody in Stanislaus County by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday, January 26th. Inderbitzen has an extensive criminal history in San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, including arrests for burglary, stolen vehicles, drug and firearm possession, and domestic violence.

We would like to thank the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in apprehending Inderbitzen. He is currently being held in the Stanislaus County Jail on charges unrelated to this case, and will be extradited to San Joaquin County upon his release.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Eric Almason.
