On Tuesday, June 9, Sierra Foothill Charter School celebrated the accomplishments of its students by hosting an Open House. Students, family and friends were invited to check out classrooms and all around campus where students work was showcased. They were also invited to purchase products made by students as part of their Career Tech Education, pick produce from the learning garden, line dance, and enjoy Mexican food from Tacos Sonora. There was lots to see and do. Payton Totten shows his parents some awesome things on the science table in the TK/K classroom while a few other students also enjoy what's there. Natalee Marundee and her mom check out what is on Natalee's desk in Mrs. Baumann's first and second grade classroom. Barbara Milazzo showcased all the amazing projects students have been working on as part of Service Learning this school year. Service Learning is about applying learning to real world issues. Some of the projects included TK/K collecting pennies and buying treats for animals adopted at the SPCA; first and second graders designing a bedside bag for children in the hospital and writing a story to put inside the bag; third and fourth graders making owl boxes; fifth and sixth graders designing and building an outdoor amphitheater; and seventh and eighth graders continuing work on their reforestation project. Emily Estrada demonstrates how riding a bike charges a battery which generates music out of the stereo and speakers hooked to it. This was part of a seventh and eighth grade Career Technical Education project. Visitors to Open House enjoyed line dancing, led by caller Sheri Ridenhour. It was a fun addition to Open House this year!
