February 10, 2022 - The Mariposa County Health and Human Services Department reports a universal indoor masking requirement for California was reinstated on December 15, 2021 for, to add a layer of protection as the Omicron variant increased and spread much more easily than the original COVID-19 virus and the Delta variant.

Nearly two months later, COVID-19 cases and hospitalization are declining across the state. This is due in large part to the collective efforts of Californians to get vaccinated, get boosted, and wear masks.

The current hospital census is still over capacity, but the dramatic surge in cases and hospitalizations due to the highly infectious Omicron variant over the last two months has declined significantly allowing the masking requirement to be lifted.
