February 15, 2022 - WASHINGTON, DC – Following reports that a swastika was found in a secure section of the United States Embassy in Bulgaria, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen jacky rosen senator nevada(D-NV), co-founder of the bipartisan Senate Taskforce for Combating Antisemitism, condemned the incident and called on the U.S. State Department to take action:

“This latest incident of antisemitic vandalism at a U.S Embassy is deeply disturbing and a reminder that antisemitism is on the rise around the world,” said Senators Rosen. “I urge the State Department to fully investigate this concerning incident and reiterate that antisemitism of any kind has no place in a U.S. government building. The United States must continue to be a global leader in fighting antisemitism, which is why we need to quickly confirm Dr. Deborah Lipstadt to be the U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism.”

Senator Rosen is the third female Jewish Senator in U.S. history and the first former synagogue president to serve in the United States Senate. She has been an outspoken advocate of combating antisemitism in the United States and around the world.

In 2019, Senator Rosen launched the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism. Last week, Senator Rosen introduced Dr. Deborah Lipstadt during her Senate Foreign Relations Committee nomination hearing to serve as Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism -- a position that Senator Rosen helped elevate to the rank of Ambassador.

In July 2021, a swastika was found etched into the wall of a State Department elevator near the office of the Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism.
