March 4, 2022 - MARIPOSA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will complete construction of a pedestrian ramp that meets Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) standards at 5th Street and State Route 140 as part of the Mariposa Pedestrian Safety Project in historic downtown Mariposa.

Handrails will be installed to complete the ADA-compliant ramp at Route 140 and 5th Street. Construction of curb ramps and sidewalks, installation of in-road warning lights and overhead lighting at several intersections between 4th and 12th streets also is scheduled until spring 2022.

Due to funding, a portion of the Mariposa Pedestrian Safety Project, construction of textured concrete crosswalks at several intersections on Route 140 from Route 49 to 12th Street, will be transferred to a paving project (10-0Y700) on Route 140 from east of Catheys Valley to Route 49 scheduled in 2023.

The purpose of the Mariposa Pedestrian Safety Project is to enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians and improve mobility / accessibility by installing high-visibility crosswalks, crosswalk lighting, in-road warning lights, and curb ramps, in accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

This work is scheduled as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and construction related issues.

District 10 will provide updates via news releases and social media (Facebook @CaltransDistrict10, Twitter @CaltransDist10).
