March 8, 2022 - Coming to Mariposa from Indiana is special guest speaker Dr. Angelica Guevera, PhD and JD this Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. She will be talking about the historical aspect Angelica Guevaraof Critical Race Theory and DisCrit, which Critical Race Theory and Disability Studies combined.

“Sometimes people understand concepts found in race topics when I explain social constructs using disability concepts, which is why I decided to include it in my presentation,” said Dr. Guevera.  Currently she is an Assistant Professor of Business Law and Ethics at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.  Previously she served as a Business Development Specialist for the U.S. Department of Labor in the Office of Disability Employment Policy. Her areas of interest include Disability Studies and Critical Race Theory (DisCrit), Business Law and Ethics, and Disability Antidiscrimination Law.

Before joining the Kelley School, Dr. Guevera was awarded the William H. Hastie Fellowship from the University of Wisconsin Law School. She also received the Institute for Legal Studies Law and Society Fellowship, as she simultaneously earned her Master of Laws Degree (LL.M.). Prof. Guevara taught the Politics of Educational Inequality at UC Berkeley and Disability Antidiscrimination Law and Maximizing Human Potential at Wisconsin Law. She received her B.A. from UCLA, her J.D. from UC Berkeley Law, and her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education.

Critical Race Theory has come to the forefront of political discussion during the past 18 months, but pollsters find that many people don’t really understand what it means. Dr. Guevera will be able to shed some light on the subject with hopes people will go away with a better understanding.

This special event will be presented in a Zoom format. It is free and is open to the public. To receive a link to the Zoom program just send an email to Mariposademclub@gmail.com. Members of the club will receive an invitation in an email.
