March 9, 2022 - Merced – On March 8, 2021, at approximately 12:53 P.M., Merced PD Officers responded to the 1100 block of P Street in Merced for a shooting. Christian Alonso-Andrade (14) of Merced was shot and MPD Maldonado Pizzarokilled in what investigators determined to be a drive by shooting.

Carlos Maldonado-Pizzaro (22) of Turlock (pictured) was identified as a suspect early in the investigation. A warrant was issued for Maldonado-Pizzaro’s arrest, but he fled to Mexico.

On February 3, 2022, Maldonado-Pizzaro was arrested by Border Patrol Agents after he unlawfully entered the United States from Mexico. The U.S. Marshalls took custody of Maldonado-Pizzaro and turned him over to local authorizes.

On March 8, Maldonado-Pizzaro was transported to the Merced County Jail and booked for murder, gang enhancements and discharging a firearm at an inhabited dwelling. This case remains under investigation as additional suspects have yet to be identified.
