March 19, 2022 - Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 22 year old Eduardo Amaya of Selma. He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail. Mr. Amaya faces one charge of murder, three counts of attempted murder and two counts of child endangerment.

At 5:30 pm, on Thursday, March 17th, Fresno County Sheriff’s dispatchers received a report of shots being fired at a home on the 2400 block of E. Clarkson Ave. in Selma. Deputies responded and entered a trailer on the property. There they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. 55 year old Marco Amaya Diaz was deceased. His 48 year old wife and their 27 year old daughter were transported to the hospital. The wife is in critical condition and the daughter is in serious condition.

While on scene, deputies learned Eduardo Amaya, the son of the 55 and 48 year old victims and brother of the 27 year old woman was responsible for the shooting. He fled the home and ran into a nearby orchard. The sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, arrived overhead and spotted the suspect. The air crew directed ground patrols to the area and deputies were able to take Amaya into custody without incident. Deputies conducted a thorough search of the field and eventually found the handgun Amaya had discarded while trying to escape.

Detectives learned the family was making preparations at the home to host a party over the weekend when Eduardo began shooting his relatives. A teenager and a toddler were in the home at the time, but were not injured. As Eduardo left the trailer, he fired shots at a man who was on the property, but he was not struck.
