April 12, 2022 – On Sunday, April 10, 2022, around 2:00 P.M. MCSO Deputy Aguilar and Corporal Roth were dispatched to the area of Eastside Acres in Madera County following a call from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious male walking around the neighborhood carrying a metal baseball bat with spikes protruding from it.

After an extensive search of the area, an adult male was located carrying the described bat with metal nails affixed to it in the alley off of River Road behind the Iglesias De Christian Church.

The male was identified as 29-year-old Fresno County resident Gabriel Alexander Ornelas, who is on active Fresno County Probation for carrying a concealed weapon. In addition to the bat, Ornelas was found to be in possession of a 15-inch machete that was hidden and concealed upon his person. Ornelas was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail for a new Felony charge of possession of a concealed weapon.

Sheriff Tyson Pogue comments, “Our community members are vital partners in upholding peace and safety. We thank this citizen for making the call to report the suspicious activity in their neighborhood and commend Deputy Aguilar and Corporal Roth for their diligence in locating the suspect and ensuring the safety of our residents.”
