July 1, 2022 - Merced – On June 29, 2022, at 8:26 P.M. the Merced police department responded to 1115 W. Olive Ave. to the Food 4 Less supermarket for a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located the victim (31), an employee of the store, who advised he had been stabbed after trying to apprehend a person who had stolen from the store. The incident took place in front of numerous witnesses and was captured on video surveillance. The suspect who was described as a Hispanic male wearing a black beanie entered the store with another subject. Shortly after, the suspect was seen running from the business with objects in his hands. The victim attempted to retrieve the items and while doing so was confronted by the suspect. After a short scuffle the suspect stabbed the victim with a sharp object and fled in a dark blue sedan with another male and female. The victim was transported to the hospital where he is in stable condition.
