July 3, 2022 - Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday July 2, 2022, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received an emergency call at Bass Lake.

Deputies arrived on scene and found several good Samaritans performing CPR on an adult female not breathing. Boat patrol deputies took over CPR and partnered with Cal Fire to continue administering aid. Unfortunately, the patient was declared deceased on scene.

According to witness statements, the woman was swimming in the lake with a life jacket and did not go under the water. The case will be investigated by the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division to determine the cause of death.
