July 8, 2022 - WASHINGTON - AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer Nancy LeaMond issued the following statement in response to reports that the Senate reconciliation bill will extend the solvency of the Medicare program:

“The reforms coming together in the reconciliation bill will save seniors money at the pharmacy and help ensure that Medicare will be there for them when they need it. With millions of Americans struggling to afford groceries and gas, it is even more important that Congress focus on lowering drug prices and strengthening Medicare for families across the country. We are pleased to see the proposal from Senator Schumer to improve the health of the Medicare Trust Fund and help protect the benefits that millions of Americans have paid into and earned.

“AARP’s top priority this summer will be passing legislation that finally cracks down on the high cost of prescription drugs, lowers health care costs for families, and protects and strengthens Medicare for years to come.”
