“The Elephant Man” is the true story of Joseph Merrick, a horribly deformed young man spending much of his life as a fairground freak. He was hounded, persecuted and starving in brutal Victorian England until his fortune changed and he was rescued by the distinguished surgeon Frederick Treves. In his quest to “live like other men,” Merrick slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of English society.

The Arts Council, is an incorporated not-for-profit organization, created to promote and support all forms of the cultural arts, for all ages, throughout Mariposa County and is supported in part by the County of Mariposa, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the California Arts Council, a state agency.
