“Each time UC deviates from its core mission of providing an excellent education, students end up footing the bill. It is concerning that UC would implement this proposal just after spending an entire year arguing they do not have the funds necessary to keep tuition flat and enroll more California students.
“This is not Robin Hood in that the money being spent is not from the rich; it’s from students who go deep into debt to invest in their future. This action will result in even higher costs on students and parents, at a time when UC is already struggling to maintain affordability and student access.”
In regards to the provision extending UC’s minimum wage increase to private contractors, Olsen added, “The University should be teaching engineering, not spending student dollars to practice social engineering by limiting who campuses can do businesses with.”
