July 30, 2022 - Merced – Merced PD Gang Unit arrested two juvenile gang members with a firearm and cocaine.

On Friday, July 29, 2022, at approximately 8:32 P.M. officers were dispatched to the 700-block alley way of West 11th Street for a report of two suspicious subjects that appeared to have masks on. As officers arrived in the area, several officers with the Gang Violence Suppression unit attempted to contact the two subjects. One of them immediately fled on foot. Officer Jesus Lopez was able to chase down and catch him as he was throwing a 9mm handgun.

The subject was identified as a known 15-year-old gang member. He was also found to be in possession of cocaine. The subject who was with him was identified as a known 17-year-old gang member. Both juveniles were found to be on probation in Merced County. They were both booked in juvenile hall for weapons charges and gang enhancements.
