August 3, 2022 - Merced – On July 17, 2022, at approximately 1:20 A.M, Merced Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1100 block of W.23rd St. in Merced. Responding officers
encountered numerous people at a residence in the area.
Officers learned that a party had taken place at the residence, and a fight broke out. A 29-year-old man was shot in the back during the fight. The man was flown to a regional trauma center, where he remains in critical condition.
MPD Detectives investigated this incident and attained evidence indicating the suspect in this investigation was 28-year-old Joshua Ramirez. MPD Detectives with the assistance of the Gang Violence Suppression Unit served a search warrant at Ramirez’ residence on the morning of Wednesday, August 3, 2022, and took Ramirez into custody. Ramirez was booked at Merced County Jail on various charges including attempt homicide and gang enhancement charges.
