Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Friday, August 5, 2022
August 5, 2022 - Ten new large fires were reported yesterday: three in Washington, two each in Montana, Oregon and Texas, one in Idaho. Currently, 70 large fires and complexes have burned 1,673,900 acres in 14 states. More than 11,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the country.
Critical fire weather with dry and very windy conditions in parts of the Northwest, Great Basin and Northern Rockies areas will increase the potential for wildfires. Wildland fire managers are prepared for possible thunderstorms across Oregon, northern Great Basin and southern Montana that could ignite very dry fuels.
The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. For additional information, visit the Predictive Services fuels and fire danger summary, fire weather and potential briefing, and the seven-day significant fire potential outlook.
During this critical time of year, please be aware that one simple spark has the potential to cause a wildfire. Across the United States this year, people caused more than 35,000 wildfires. Most of these could have been prevented. As you enjoy the many opportunities that your public lands offer, remember to check for your local fire restrictions and recreate responsibly.
Isolated mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are expected across far northeast California and south-central/southeast Oregon, with scattered mixed wet and dry thunderstorms across eastern Idaho into southern Montana and western/northern Wyoming. Isolated mainly dry thunderstorms are likely to develop overnight across from northeast Oregon through central Idaho into west-central and southwest Montana. Scattered to numerous wet monsoonal thunderstorms are forecast in the eastern Sierra, across Nevada, the Greater Four Corners, southeast Idaho, and Wyoming, with the greatest coverage likely over much of Nevada and Utah. Hot, dry, and breezy conditions, including widespread temperatures above 100oF, will develop across much of the Plains, with the strongest winds and elevated conditions likely across northern Nebraska, eastern South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota ahead of a cold front. Breezy and unstable conditions are likely across much of central Texas into central Oklahoma, with isolated to scattered thunderstorms and new lightning ignitions possible. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across the central Appalachians into the Northeast, with thunderstorm coverage decreasing from previous days across much of the Southeast.
