Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Saturday, August 6, 2022

August 6, 2022 - Currently, 71 large fires and complexes have burned 1,693,559 acres in 15 states. Seven new large fires were reported yesterday: two in California and Texas, and one each in Georgia, firefighters credit nifcNebraska and Oregon. More than 12,200 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents. Three Type 1 incident management teams (IMTs), nine Type 2 IMTs and two complex IMTs are assigned to incidents in several western states.

Critical fire weather with dry and very windy conditions in parts of the Northwest, Great Basin and Northern Rockies areas will increase the potential for wildfires. Wildland fire managers are prepared for possible thunderstorms across Oregon, northern Great Basin and southern Montana that could ignite very dry fuels.

The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. For additional information, visit the Predictive Services fuels and fire danger summaryfire weather and potential briefing, and the seven-day significant fire potential outlook.

When you enjoy your precious public forests, parks and rangelands, it is critical for you to be fire safe. Have spark arresters on equipment and vehicles like chain saws, motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. Exhaust systems on any vehicle can easily ignite vegetation, so drive and park in designated areas keeping off and away from dry grass and brush. Please do your part to prevent wildfires and recreate responsibly.

Weather

A much drier airmass will move into northern California, Inland Northwest, northwest Great Basin, and Northern Rockies west of the Divide, with afternoon relative humidity of 5-20% and poor recovery of 20-40% for mid-slopes and ridges. Portions of southeast Oregon into southwest Idaho may have dry and breezy conditions as well. Isolated to scattered mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are likely to be ongoing across portions of central and eastern Idaho into southwest and central Montana in the morning, with scattered to widespread showers in eastern Montana throughout the day. Isolated mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are possible across portions of northern California, southern Oregon, and northwest Nevada. Scattered monsoonal thunderstorms will develop across much of the Southwest, eastern Nevada, southeast Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming. Hot, dry, unstable, and breezy conditions are likely across north Texas into the central Plains, with the most critical conditions across north Texas into southwest Oklahoma. A brief surge of Gulf of Mexico moisture is expected for central and south Texas, with minimum relative humidity near or above 30%, but increased stability will limit chances for thunderstorms except near the Gulf Coast. Showers and thunderstorms are expected across the portions of the northern Plains into the western Great Lakes ahead of a cold front while scattered showers and thunderstorms develop along the Gulf Coast.
