Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Sunday, August 7, 2022

August 8, 2022 - Across the nation, 72 large fires and complexes have burned 1,708,248 acres in 15 states. Five new large fires were reported, two in Montana, one in Texas and two in Washington. firefighters credit nifcThree Type 1 incident management teams (IMTs), nine Type 2 IMTs and two complex IMTs are assigned to incidents in several western states.

Critical weather conditions with very hot temperatures and dry fuels continue in many states. Red flag warnings are in effect for parts of Oregon, Washington and northern California. Wildland firefighters and support personnel need your help to prevent wildfires. Check for local fire restrictions and abide by them. Please do your part to prevent wildfires and recreate responsibly.

Weather

A dry airmass will remain over the Inland Northwest today and spread into much of Idaho, western Montana, and northern California with relative humidity of 7-20% in the afternoon with poor overnight recovery of 20-40% for mid-slopes and ridges. Portions of northern California will have breezy conditions as well due to south winds gusting to 30 mph. Isolated mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are forecast across far northeast California into south-central Oregon with new fire starts possible. Scattered monsoonal thunderstorms will develop across much of the Southwest into the Colorado Rockies, but Nevada and Utah will be drier. South winds of 10-20 mph will continue today across Texas and Oklahoma, but relative humidity will be higher at 25-40% due to increased low-level moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Showers and thunderstorms are expected portions of the northern and central Plains into Midwest and Great Lakes ahead of a cold front. Isolated thunderstorms will develop from the southern Appalachians to the central Gulf Coast as well, but hot and dry conditions will develop this afternoon across the Northeast. Cool and moist conditions will continue across Alaska with another storm moving into western Alaska.
