August 13, 2022 - The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is currently cooperating with an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an officer involved shooting incident involving a Madera County Sheriff’s Deputy.
On Friday, August 12, 2022, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a deputy conducted a subject check in the area of Krohn and Ellis Streets in Madera. During the contact shots were fired at the male, striking him. The deputy involved was not injured.
The deputy immediately provided medical aid until relieved by medics. The male was transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
The Madera Police Department and Madera County District Attorney’s Office were called in to oversee the investigation into the incident. The deputy involved is not being identified. Pursuant to our policy, as is common with officer involved shootings, the deputy will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
The male suspect remains in stable condition in a local medical facility. His identity is not being released at this time. He will be facing felony charges of resisting arrest and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
