Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Tuesday, August 16, 2022
August 16, 2022 - Throughout the country, 54 large fires have burned over 1.4 million acres.Twenty-three of these large fires are being managed for full containment, rather than resource management. Nine new large fires were reported: two each in Montana and Idaho; three in Texas; and one each in Oklahoma and Florida. Firefighters worked efficiently and effectively, resulting in five large fires contained.
The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. Hot, dry, and locally breezy conditions are likely across much of central and northern California, the Inland Northwest, northern Great Basin, and Northern Rockies, with an increase of fire activity expected. Isolated mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are likely in the central and northern Sierra into northeast California and possibly south-central Oregon, with drier storms more likely farther north. Storms are expected mostly along and east of the Sierra and Cascade Crests, but there is potential for some of them to drift west of the crests, with a few storms continuing overnight. Isolated to scattered mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are likely across the southern Sierra and southern into central and western Nevada, with wetter thunderstorms in southeast California, including eastern slopes of the Peninsular Ranges. Widespread monsoon thunderstorms are expected across Arizona into New Mexico, southern Utah, and southern Colorado. Thunderstorms and showers remain likely across far southwest Texas and south Texas and along much of the Gulf and southeast Atlantic coasts.
