September 7, 2022 - Mariposa County Public Health officials have confirmed the county first case of Monkeypox (MPX) in a resident who traveled out of the county.
The individual recognized their potential exposure and self-isolated upon their return. Case investigation and contact tracing have been completed, and the risk to the general public remains low.
Individuals can reduce their risk by:
-Having open and honest conversations with their sexual partners before engaging in intimate physical contact
-Washing their hands often
-Avoiding close contact with individuals showing symptoms
-Not sharing items like utensils, cups, clothing, towels, and bedding with individuals showing symptoms
-Using appropriate PPE when caring for individuals showing symptoms
