September 9, 2022 - Merced – Carlos Baker (38) of Merced, was arrested for felony vehicle pursuit, felon person in possession of a firearm & ammunition, and other weapon charges.

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 9:47 P.M., Officer Calcagno initiated a traffic enforcement stop near W. Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way after he saw a black BMW speeding. The vehicle failed to yield and sped off south on Canal Street.

Officers chased the vehicle and it finally stopped near the 1000 block of “Q” Street. The driver, Carlos Baker, was arrested at the scene. During the vehicle pursuit, Officer Calcagno saw Baker discard an item in the 500 block alleyway of W. 16th Street. Officers searched the area and located a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic firearm. Baker is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his criminal history.

Baker was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail.
