Flight 93 National Memorial will honor the 40 passengers and crew members on the 21st observance of September 11 with the annual Service of Remembrance

September 11, 2022 - SHANKSVILLE, PA– Flight 93 National Memorial will honor the 40 passengers and crew members on the 21st observance of Sept. 11 with the annual Service of Remembrance.   

The service will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Memorial Plaza. At 10:03 a.m. – when Flight 93 crashed – the names of each passenger and crew member will be read and the Bells of Remembrance rung in their memory. The program will conclude with a wreath-laying at the Wall of Names. Standing room is available for the public to attend the outdoor hour-long annual observance. ADA seating will be available.  

The entrance to the memorial will close at sunset on Saturday, Sept. 10, and reopen at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. Signage will direct visitors to parking areas. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to allow ample time for the shuttle ride. Accessible buses are available to accommodate wheelchairs. Shuttles will begin running at 7 a.m. With the last shuttle running at 2:30 p.m.  

The event will be held rain or shine. Please wear appropriate footwear, the ceremony will take place in a field and requires walking on mown grass and uneven ground. In the event of severe weather, elements of the program are subject to change. The Visitor Center will remain open until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. About Flight 93 National Memorial On September 24, 2002, Congress passed the Flight 93 National Memorial Act. The Act created a new national park unit to commemorate the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who, on September 11, 2001, courageously gave their lives thereby thwarting a planned attack on our nation's capital. The memorial is outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed with the loss of its 40 passengers and crew.
