California Statewide Fire Summary for Sunday, September 11, 2022

September 11, 2022 - As of this morning, there are 8,322 firefighters making progress on 11 major wildfires and three extended attack wildfires in California. Yesterday, firefighters also responded to 29 new initial Cal Fireattack wildfires across the state.

Since the beginning of the year, 325,083 acres have burned in California. While firefighters continue battling the current major wildfires, CAL FIRE and fire departments across the state remain prepared for potential more significant wildfires due to critical fire weather.

Northern California will see a high risk for lightning in eastern areas on Sunday combined with very flammable fuels. Ridging overhead Sunday morning will gradually shift east through the weekend to be replaced with cooler troughing through the week. Breezier west-southwest winds gusting 25-35 mph will develop through the Greater Bay Area coastal gaps with south-southeast winds of 15-25 mph extending up the Sacramento Valley. Relative humidity will improve in the Greater Bay area and in the Sacramento Valley. Very low relative humidity in the single digits to low teens will continue in north and east areas of the state today with south winds gusting 25-35 mph in areas. A few isolated thunderstorms may develop around the Tahoe Basin this afternoon with lower chances further north along the Northern Sierra Mountains. In Southern California, the remnants of Hurricane Kay will spin off the Northern Baja Coast while high pressure sits over the Great Basin through Monday. Temperatures will be near normal through Monday. Minimum humidity will drop to between 15% and 30% above and inland from the marine layer influence by late next week.
