California Statewide Fire Summary for Monday, September 12, 2022

September 12, 2022 - As of this morning, there are 8,851 firefighters making progress on 12 major wildfires and three extended attack wildfires in Cal FireCalifornia. Yesterday, firefighters also responded to 28 new initial attack wildfires across the state.

Since the beginning of the year, 332,019 acres have burned in California. While firefighters continue battling the current major wildfires, CAL FIRE and fire departments across the state remain prepared for potential more significant wildfires.

Northern California will see a high risk for abundant lightning in the eastern areas this afternoon and evening combined with critically dry fuels and breezy west-southwest winds which will strengthen on Tuesday. Upper level troughing will gradually deepen through the week bringing near to slightly below normal temperatures as well as moderating relative humidity and breezier winds. Scattered light showers will continue across the area this morning with a slight chance of an embedded isolated thunderstorm or two. In Southern California, the remnants of Hurricane Kay will continue to spin off the Northern Baja Coast while high pressure sits over the Great Basin today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to move across the region through Monday evening, with most locations receiving less than a half inch of additional rainfall. The shower and thunderstorm activity will end across most of the region Monday night, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across Central California from the Sierra Crest eastward through Tuesday evening. Temperatures will be near normal today and then be around 5 degrees below normal Monday.

California remains dry and ripe for wildfires. Have you signed up for emergency alerts in case a fire near your home requires you to evacuate?
