.SYNOPSIS...
Cooler temperatures will continue through the weekend into next
week. A big trough is going to slide in Sunday through Monday
bringing a chance of rain to the San Joaquin Valley and snow above
8,000 feet.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Cooler temperatures will reign through the week thanks to a broadly
cyclonic but nearly zonal flow. This onshore flow will bring in
cooler but drier air from the Pacific for the next several days. The
latest probabilistic models have a 25 percent chance or less of high
temperatures hitting at least 90 degrees until next Tuesday which is
significant as it indicates a cooler than average weekend.
The big story is the trough that is expected to come through this
weekend. Both the GEFS and European model ensembles agree on the
trough coming but have differences in timing, strength, and
location. However, the trough will bring temperatures down that mid
to upper 70s are being forecast for the San Joaquin Valley on
Monday.
The trough is also expected to bring precipitation to the Valley.
The latest probability forecast has 20 to 30 percent of models
showing at least a hundredth of an inch of rain in accumulation
for many Valley locations. The trough is also expected to bring
snow to the mountains Saturday night through Monday. The latest
forecast models for Tioga Pass show a 47 percent chance of at
least a tenth of an inch of snow and 25 percent chance of at least
an inch of snow from early Sunday morning to Tuesday morning.
This system will need to be monitored closely for snow as well as
the impacts from it.

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions will prevail in Central California
through at least the next 24 hours. Lower visibilities possible in
the Sierra Nevada due to afternoon showers. &&
