September 17, 2022 - As of this morning, there are 6,643 firefighters making progress on 10 major wildfires, and two extended attack wildfires in California. One fire has been contained. Yesterday, Cal Firefirefighters also responded to 24 new initial attack wildfires across the state.

Since the beginning of the year, 359,153 acres have burned in California. While firefighters continue battling the current major wildfires, CAL FIRE and fire departments across the state remain prepared for potential more significant wildfires.

Strong winds and moderately low relative humidity across portions of interior Northern California today. Wetting precipitation likely for most, if not all the region Sunday thru Wednesday. Significantly cooler and wetter weather through Wednesday. W-SW to NW coastal gap winds; S to SE winds up the Sacramento Valley and SW winds from the Cascade/Sierra crest eastward will strengthen substantially today with widespread gusts of 25-40 mph combining with moderately low relative humidity in the interior areas. Stronger W to SW gusts of 50-70 mph or more are possible along higher elevation exposed mountain ridges this afternoon through tonight. Southern California will experience high temperatures 5 to 8 degrees below normal Saturday with readings generally in the lower to mid-80s in the valleys, upper 60s and low 70s at the coast, and low to mid 90s in the deserts. No precipitation is expected Saturday. Another round of sundowner winds with gusts of 40 to 45 mph is possible across the south coast of central and western Santa Barbara County this evening and tonight. Accompanying relative humidity values will remain very high.
