September 20, 2022 - No new large fires were reported yesterday. Nationally, 94 large fires and complexes have burned 899,790 acres in 8 states. Most large fires are in Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon firefighters credit nifcand California. More than 13,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents. Six Type 1 incident management teams (IMTs), seven Type 2 IMTs, and one complex IMT are supporting large fires in the West.

Since January 1, 51,533 wildfires have burned 6,801,009 acres. This is above the 10-year average of 44,019 wildfires and 6,208,128 acres burned. More wildfires have ignited in 2022 than in the past 10 years. While you are out enjoying your public lands, please do your part to prevent wildfires. 

Rain is expected in parts of central California through southern and central Oregon and into western Nevada. Windy conditions are forecast for parts of the Northwest and Great Basin areas. Weather

An upper low will slowly track northeast and move onshore into northern California late this afternoon. Rain, with some embedded thunderstorms, will continue over much of northern California into portions of central California while extending through southern and central Oregon and into western Nevada. Scattered to numerous wet thunderstorms are expected across the greater Four Corners region, while isolated to scattered thunderstorms are likely across the Great Lakes, south Texas, and Florida Peninsula. Gusty east-northeast winds of 10-20 with gusts to 40 mph amid minimum relative humidity of 15-30% are likely from north-central Oregon into the Washington Cascades and Columbia Basin. Southerly sustained winds of 10-20 mph gusting 25-35 mph amid minimum relative humidity of 10-25% are expected across the southern and eastern halves of Nevada into western Utah, southeast California, southern Idaho, and far northwest Arizona. Relative humidity is likely to drop below 35% across much of the Southeast and below 25% on much of the southern and central Plains coinciding with well above normal temperatures.
