September 22, 2022 - Currently, 94 large fires and complexes have burned 900,748 acres. About 10,500 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents. Seven Type 1 incident firefighters credit nifcmanagement teams (IMTs), eight Type 2 IMTs and one complex IMT are supporting incidents in the Northwest, Northern California, Northern Rockies and Great Basin areas.

So far in 2022, 51,811 wildfires have burned 6,682,998 acres across the country. These numbers are above the 10-year averages of 44,109 wildfires and 6,232,850 acres burned.

Today will bring widespread rain to the Rockies with dry and windy conditions across Wyoming and the northern Plains. Above normal temperatures and low relative humidity is expected across the southern Plain and southeastern states. Weather

An upper low will move from the northern Rockies into the northern Plains with an associated cold front moving through the Rockies onto the central and northern High Plains. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across Montana and much of the Rockies near and east of the Continental Divide, with the showers and thunderstorms moving onto the central and northern Plains by this evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also likely across portions of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Florida Peninsula ahead of a cold front. Hot and dry conditions will continue on the southern Plains with temperatures near or above 100oF and minimum relative humidity below 25%. Above normal temperatures with relative humidity below 30% is likely across the Southeast as well, with locally elevated conditions due to west winds of 10-20 mph across portions of Georgia and the eastern Carolinas.
