September 26, 2022 - I, Teresa Johnson, as a selected interim John C. Fremont Board member, am announcing my candidacy for a two-year board position. I would like to introduce myself to the community. I have been a resident of Mariposa for five years. The people and community of Mariposa have won my heart and I intend to make this my permanent home.
I believe that as a new member of a community, you must offer any knowledge or skills you have and utilize them to assist your community. Therefore, I volunteered with CASA, Bootjack Fire Station, Cal-Fire, and CMCAA. Upon arrival, I accepted a three-year contract with Yosemite National Park in their Human Resource Office. I am currently working for Woodland school as a teacher aide with the first and second-grade students.
My goal as an interim board member is to learn everything I can about our hospital – The good, the bad, and the ugly. Then to assist in achieving the best hospital for Mariposa. Our hospital has five pillars: People, Service, Quality, Finance, and Growth.
Based on the pillars, I have set my personal goals for John C. Fremont as follows:
- Improve public knowledge of what our hospital offers the community
- Assist in Stabilizing our hospital’s financial status.
- Review expansions of services offered by our hospital and the cost of those expansions.
- Ensure our community continues to have the medical and long-term facilities to care for us.
My educational background is a Bachelor’s in Human Resources from Friend’s University, Wichita, Kansas, and a Master’s in Administration from Central Michigan University, Fort Riley, Kansas. I am a graduate of the Flinthills Leadership Program. I have been a Toastmaster for 14 years and held club presidential roles in a variety of clubs across the United States.
My work history spans 34 years with the Federal Government. I have extensive knowledge of hospital administration through my position as Medical Expense Reporting System supervisor for Letterman Army Medical Center and Irwin army hospital. These positions afforded me the opportunity to research hospital usage and patient quotas. I learned hospitals have multiple moving parts. I worked to downsize the Letterman Army Medical Center and assisted in the smooth transition to a new Irwin Army hospital through data collection, strategic planning, and coordination with the civilian community and post commanders’ office. While working in Employment Readiness I learned how essential communication is. Open honest conversations and detailed reports of proposed actions, skills, and personnel needs. I have built a Leadership Program for the Corp of Engineers in conjunction with the University of Nebraska, Omaha. As the board adheres to the Brown Act, I have knowledge of practices and adhere to multiple levels of laws, rules, and regulations over my 34-year career.
As Measure “O” funding secures a new facility, it is my belief the board should ensure the medical needs of our community will be met. Our hospital is financially solvent supporting itself and improving services as needed. That there is a constant and continual review of customer service. Open communication with the community is improved. Thereby, offering our community the best hospital and long-term facilities to meet all resident’s needs.
Our hospital can and should be the best for our community. To assist me in providing valid suggestions for improvements on expansion, customer service, and care provided; I am asking for your input. I will be offering a Facebook page for your convenience in communicating with me. I will be available to speak with you at local events and planning meetings where you can come speak to me personally.
Thank you in advance for considering me as a two-year member of the John C. Fremont Hospital board.
