October 2, 2022 - WASHINGTON – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after he voted to pass the Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental jim costa congressman california 16th districtAppropriations Act of 2023 to keep the government open, fund vital public programs, and support Ukraine amidst Putin’s unprovoked war.

“Congress has a duty to ensure the federal government is fully funded and working for the American people,” said Costa. “This continuing resolution will fund critical government services, provide relief for families, and hold Russia accountable for its invasion of Ukraine. Keeping the government open and operational is the right thing to do for our country!” 

The Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 will fund and keep the government open through December 2022. In addition, some significant investments include: 

  • Providing Critical Aid to Ukraine: Provides $12.4 billion in emergency supplemental funding for Ukraine, including defense equipment, weapons, training, and intelligence support.
  • Strengthening Mental Health Services: Provides $62 million to support the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to expand suicide prevention services, through the implementation of call, text, and chat messaging.
  • Funding Critical Veterans’ Programs: Authorizes funding for reintegration programs through 2024 to help homeless veterans with job training, treatment, and rehabilitation. It also extends nursing home care for veterans with service-connected disabilities, and VA’s home modification assistance for veterans with disabilities.
