.DISCUSSION...
The synoptic pattern has an upper low over south central Montana
and an amplified but narrow upper ridge over the eastern Pacific.
The upper low will slowly shift east over the northern Rockies as
it weakens into an open wave Monday afternoon. The ridge begins to
build in over the Pacific Northwest but largely remains offshore.
Temperatures will be around 3 to 6 degrees above average for early
October on Sunday and Monday. There is good agreement among the
model ensemble means with the ridge expanding and building inland
Tuesday through Thursday. A warming trend will occur resulting in
high temperatures around 9 to 12 degrees above average on Thursday
and Friday. Here are blended model guidance probabilities for high
temperatures of 94 degrees or higher on Thursday, October 6th.
Lemoore: 69%
Fresno: 65%
Hanford: 62%
Reedley: 57%
Merced: 56%
Bakersfield: 54%
Porterville: 53%
Madera: 52%
Delano: 52%
Visalia: 51%
Slight cooling is forecast next Saturday though temperatures will
remain several degrees above average. Ensemble guidance indicates
a small potential for an upper low over northern Baja California
next Saturday with some tropical moisture spreading across SoCal.
There is low confidence in this scenario at this time but will be
something to keep an eye on this week.
