October 5, 2022 - Currently 74 large fires and complexes have burned 786,393 acres in nine states. Two new large fires were reported, one in Colorado and one in Louisiana. About 4,500 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents.
Two Type 1 incident management teams (IMTs) are in Florida to support response and search and rescue efforts after Hurricane Ian. One Type 1 IMT, five Type 2 IMTs and one complex IMTS are supporting wildland fire suppression efforts in the Northern California, Northwest, Rocky Mountain and Great Basin areas.
Warm and dry conditions will continue in California, and parts of the Great Basin and Northwest areas. Visit the Predictive Services website for more information about current weather conditions and listen to the weekly fuels and fire danger podcast.
A cold front will slowly push south across the southern Plains and east through the Ozarks as it weakens, but another cold front will start moving south on the northern Plains and into the western Great Lakes. Low relative humidity of 15-30% will continue from the southern Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast and south Texas, but winds should remain relatively light. Warm and dry conditions will remain in California, the western and northern Great Basin, and Inland Northwest. Thunderstorms will continue over the Southwest into the Colorado Rockies, and scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms are likely across portions of the Midwest and western Great Lakes associated with the cold front and upper low passage. Lingering showers are also likely along portions of the Mid- Atlantic and New England coasts.
