October 7, 2022 - Two new large fires were reported, one in Idaho and one in Louisiana. Seventy-five large fires and complexes have burned 788,976 acres in eight states. About 3,900 wildland firefighters credit nifcfirefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents.

Since January 1, 54,999 wildfires have burned 6,931,367 acres in the United States. This is they most wildfires-to-date in the past 10 years. The number of acres burned is slightly above the 10-year average of 6,527,151. 

If you plan to get out and enjoy your public lands this weekend, please remember to park in areas that are clear of grass and brush. Average temperatures from an exhaust system can reach between 900 - 1600 degrees, depending on how long you have been driving. We need you to do your part to prevent wildfires by parking on dirt or gravel surfaces.

Weather

A cold front will push south through Texas and the Southeast to the Gulf Coast. Low relative humidity of 20-35% will continue across portions of east Texas through the Southeast. Warm and dry conditions with light winds will continue in California, the western and northern Great Basin, and Northwest. Numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue over eastern Arizona and New Mexico, spreading into portions of the Texas panhandle and Colorado Rockies as well. Light rain is likely across portions of Nebraska and Kansas in the morning while scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely across portions of the Northeast.
