If you are planning to shoot on public lands, please take these precautions: check weather conditions before you go, don’t shoot into rocks or metal objects and place targets in areas that are free of vegetation, don’t use tracer rounds, exploding targets or ammo that is steel-jacketed or contains steel-core components, always bring water, a fire extinguisher, and a shovel. Weather

Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected from central Wyoming and southwest South Dakota extending southeast through western Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and into the Ozarks as west-northwest sustained winds of 12-25 mph gusting 30-50 mph amid minimum relative humidity of 10-30% develop. Elevated to critical conditions and high-risk significant fire potential are likely in the Ohio, Lower Missouri, and Mid-Mississippi Valleys into the northern Lower Mississippi and western Tennessee Valleys as west-southwest sustained winds of 12-20 mph gusting 20-40 mph amid minimum relative humidity of 15-30% develop, but recent rainfall will help mitigate fire environment concerns in some of these areas. Lingering isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely over portions of coastal southern California, the Great Lakes, south Texas, and south Florida, with heavier precipitation expected over Maine. Above normal temperatures and minimum relative humidity of 8-25% will continue over much of the West. Light, overnight offshore flow is likely on portions of the central and northern California coast extending northward into western Washington, with poor to moderate relative humidity recovery possible in some locations.
