November 16, 2022 - STOCKTON – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently completed a slope repair and stabilization project on State Route 140 near the community of Briceburg in Mariposa County.

Construction took place from July until November 2022 along eastbound Route 140 about two miles west of Bull Creek Road and two miles south of Briceburg.

Caltrans repaired the steep, rocky slope beneath an 84-inch, reinforced, concrete pipe culvert. The outflow from the culvert eroded the slope, so Caltrans and its partners from Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA, installed rock slope protection and upgraded guardrails to current standards.

Caltrans took a proactive approach to mitigate potential damage from future weather events. Doing nothing potentially could have resulted in a catastrophic road failure that would have blocked access to Yosemite National Park and brought serious economic consequences to the gateway communities that depend on this access.
