.DISCUSSION...
Mid and high clouds are streaming overhead advance of a
significant northeast Pacific low pressure system dropping
southeast into the region. The leading edge of accompanying
precipitation is on track to enter northern portions of our
forecast area around mid morning. This system will bring impactful
snow to the mountains and significant rain to the lower
elevations from this morning into early Friday morning. Around 2-3
feet of snow will accumulate in the higher elevations of the
Sierra north of Kern County, with around a 30 percent probability
of reaching 36 inches. With lowering snow levels tonight, a few
inches of snow are forecast to fall down as low as 2000 ft. The
southern end of the Sierra will receive around 8-16 inches of
snow at the higher elevations. With lowering snow levels overnight

highway passes. Probabilities are 30-40 percent for 1/10 of an
inch of snow there, but only 4-8 percent for at least one inch.

San Joaquin Valley QPF is around 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the south
Valley and as high as 3/4 inch to an inch farther north. 1 to 2

the Kern County mountain and desert areas later this afternoon
through tonight. A Wind Advisory has been issued for these
locations.

Friday will bring a brief break, followed by another low pressure
system moving into the west coast by early Sunday. Precipitation
ahead of this system will begin impacting central California by
early Saturday, with continued unsettled conditions into early
Monday as the low pressure system tracks inland. This system will
bring additional significant rain and mountain snow, then dry and
cooler conditions for the middle of next week as the system lifts
