December 2, 2022 – WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over amy klobuchar senator minnesota official photocampaign finance law, released the statement below following the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) vote to adopt disclaimer rules that will apply to some types of online political advertising.

“For our democracy to work, we need transparency - including strong rules in place so the American people know who is behind the political advertising they see on the Internet. That’s why we need disclaimers for online political ads, just like for radio and television. While today’s decision by the Federal Election Commission to require disclaimers for some online political ads is a step in the right direction, we must do more to improve the transparency and accountability of these ads, including passing my bipartisan Honest Ads Act.”

As Chairwoman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, Klobuchar has long led efforts to increase transparency in our campaign finance system. She leads the Honest Ads Act, bipartisan legislation with Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Mark Warner (D-VA) to improve the accountability of online political advertising. The Honest Ads Act would require online political advertisements to adhere to the same disclosure requirements as TV, radio, and print ads, so Americans can know who is purchasing advertisements to influence our elections.
