December 5, 2022 - The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) reports in a letter to USDA Forest Service Chief, Randy Moore, on November 18, 2022, Senators Feinstein and Padilla, along RCRC delegation representatives Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale), Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel), Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena), Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara), and Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), requested details about the lack of USDA forest management and fire preparedness efforts in Grizzly Flats, which contributed to the community’s destruction in the Caldor Fire of 2021.

They also requested that the Forest Service provide names of other California communities identified as being at high risk of catastrophic wildfire, for which plans are being prepared or are not yet fully implemented.

The lawmakers expressed a desire to continue working for increased efficiency and funding for wildfire mitigation projects.
