“More than 50 years have passed since the American flag flew in Havana. Today, thanks to President Obama, we have begun a thaw in the frosty relations that have kept our two peoples apart. I strongly believe that despite the differences between our governments, Americans and Cubans together will benefit economically, culturally and spiritually from renewed contacts.
“The three Marines who lowered our flag all those years ago were here to help raise Old Glory. They were right when they said our flag would fly again. I truly believe that benefits will quickly flow to both peoples, and I urge my colleagues to now lift the embargo.”
