December 9, 2022 - Merced – Sergio Garcia (31) was apprehended at the conclusion of a high-speed vehicle pursuit. He was in possession of a loaded firearm and controlled substances.

On Thursday, December 8th at 3:06 A.M., Merced Police Department officers responded to Travelodge Hotel at 1260 E. Yosemite Parkway for a disturbance. Garcia was at the hotel and possibly armed with a firearm. A records check revealed Garcia had a felony arrest warrant for robbery.

As officers approached the hotel, Garcia sped off on a blue motorcycle. Officers pursued Garcia and he failed to stop which initiated a high-speed vehicle pursuit. The pursuit went out towards the east city limits and ended after he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a concrete median near Campus Parkway and E. Hwy 140.

Garcia was ejected from the motorcycle and came to a rest approximately 150 yards away from the collision. Garcia was in possession of a loaded 9mm firearm and controlled substances.

Garcia sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma center for medical treatment. Garcia is not allowed to possess firearms & ammunition due to his criminal history.
