December 10, 2022 - Merced – Officers working with the Merced Police Departments Gang Unit arrested a wanted man after he fled from them on foot. He was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and narcotics.
On December 9, 2022, at approximately 9:16 A.M., officers working with the Merced Police Departments Gang Violence Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Carol Ave. for a traffic violation. The driver stopped the vehicle in a parking lot and immediately fled on foot.
Officer Fister and Officer Opinski were able to catch Roger Janz (26) a short distance away. Janz had an outstanding probation warrant for his arrest. Upon searching Janz vehicle, officers located a loaded handgun and methamphetamine. Janz was booked into the Merced County Jail for his warrant, for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and for resisting and obstructing a peace officer.
