August 18, 2015 - Next week, the National Park Service will reach a major milestone - 99 years of service! In honor of this historic day, Yosemite will be holding many special events next week to celebrate Founders' Day and the NPS 99th Anniversary. We hope you'll be able to join us to support the NPS Centennial.
Tuesday, August 25th: Founders' Day
1. NPS Centennial Sponsor REI will host the REI Village
- The REI Village will be in front of the Valley Visitor Center from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
- The Village will feature a lounge with camping equipment, where visitors, staff, and partners can relax, hand out, and learn about the NPS Centennial.
- There will be special interactive exhibits, fun activities, giveaways, and prizes throughout the day. It promises to be a fun way to engage our visitors and commemorate the NPS' 99th Anniversary.
2. Founders' Day Yosemite "InstaMeet" featuring Conrad Anker
- The InstaMeet will feature special guest and Yosemite Centennial Ambassador, Conrad Anker from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the REI Village.
- Join us for InstaFUN and help share Founders' Day on social media.
- Hashtags for the event will be: #YosemiteNPS99, #REIVillage, and #FindYourPark
- Join us at noon for remarks by Superintendent Neubacher, REI representatives, and Conrad Anker.
Wednesday, August 26th
3. WPA Poster Presentation by Ranger Doug
- The WPA Poster presentation will be from 2:00 - 3:00 pm in the El Portal Large Breakroom on Wed. Aug. 26th.
- Special Guest Doug Leen will show five original WPA prints and give a presentation that tells the story of how these rare prints were initially made, how they were lost, found and reproduced.
- The prints were previously displayed in the Dept. of Interior Museum in Washington, and now Doug is traveling around the country giving his presentation.
- Join us to learn more about the history of the WPA posters
