August 20, 2015 - CAL FIRE reports this morning over 11,000 firefighters are battling 15 active wildfires across California. A minor cooling trend and a rise in humidity tonight through Friday in Northern California will aid firefighters in their efforts to contain the over a dozen wildfires. Gusty westerly winds Thursday through Friday from Cascade/ Sierra eastward, but stronger south to southwest winds again from late Sunday into Tuesday. In Southern California, the onshore flow will continue to keep the coastal areas and adjacent valleys relatively cool through Saturday. It will be breezy in the Kern County Mountains, the Antelope Valley and Banning Pass as well as the Cleveland National Forest where wind speeds of 20-30 with gusts to 40 mph will be common. While temperatures will be cooler statewide, very warm and dry conditions will maintain an elevated threat for large fire across the foothills and mountains.

CAL FIRE recommends that all residents be prepared for wildfire by remembering “Ready, Set, Go!” Being “set” for a wildfire means that the public have a wildfire action plan that includes what items they would take if evacuated. Learn more about being “set” at www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
